CU Etiquette |
What you need to know
CU Etiquette is the
etiquette of the CUworld videochat service. Included
here is advice on how to conduct yourself, and how you should expect to be treated during
your videochat experiences.
-
The first thing
to remember on CUworld is that the people you see and chat to are real. Take time to get
to know them as people. Announce your arrival in a room with a general "Hello
All"...Join in the chat, be polite and try not to take offence too easily. It's just
like real life...because it is real life.
When entering a
videochat room for the first time, be cool and try to get the 'feel' of the room and the
people in it before you jump right in. If the
atmosphere of the room is not what you are looking for, just leave and try another.
Show respect to
other people. If someone disrespects you ignore them, rather than to argue with them and
spoil the enjoyment of the other people who may be present. Avoid the use of language or
attitudes which may be offensive to others.
Please, no
asking, requesting, begging, telling, or demanding shows from male or female users. This is generally upsetting and unsettling for
everyone and is considered harassment.
If you have
questions, ask away, but in a courteous manner. Most people will respond in like manner,
and, if your question is too personal for them, they will politely say so. Asking
questions is an excellent way to start conversations. Most people like to welcome and help
'newbies'.
Use bolding
and/or CAPS for emphasis only; continuous 'shouting' can be annoying.
Remember that you
are not anonymous. All videochat servers are capable of capturing your IP address and log
all visitors to a file.
Keep your clothes on in G, PG and MA rated
rooms and channels. Nudity is not permitted in any of the
CUworld hosted public rooms at any time. Nudity is defined as
showing unclothed body parts from the shoulders down. Nudity is
only allowed in room marked with appropriate room rating that allows
nudity. For example: the X rating.
CUworld is a
videochat service, send live people video. This means you on camera. Not your, elbow, knee, table, computer, monitor,
TV, wall, plant, fish, cat, still pictures or taped videos. People want to see you as much as you want to see them.
While having a video camera is not a required to participate in
CUworld chat rooms, you will find people are more friendly if you
have one turned on and
on your face.
Never take Video
Captures without the permission of the sender.
If you are unsure
if something is permitted or not on CUworld, it would be in your best interest to not
engage in such activity. When in doubt, don't.
No advertising
other services. If you wish to exchange
information, do it in private. CUworld is not a posting or exchange service.
Be yourself and
have fun. Do not pretend to be someone else. If you are not Mel Gibson, then dont pretend
to be.
Be Safe! Never give personal information (real name,
address, phone number, email address, credit card number) to anyone unless you trust him
or her.
Music Streaming vs. Voice Chat: CUworld
has designated certain rooms for those members who wish to stream
and/or listen to streaming music. "Cantina" rooms or
rooms denoted with a are
configured with a high fidelity audio codec for streaming
music. These rooms require more bandwidth. When entering
a streaming music room please make sure your
Microphone is muted. If you prefer not to listen to music but
would still like to enjoy the room, simply mute you
speaker.
